We checked the Travellers' Choice section on the site to find the hotels recommended most highly by customers.

The Beaumont Hotel, Hexham was the top-rated hotel in Hexham. It was rated five stars from 1,489 reviews evaluating its location, cleanliness, service and value.

One Tripadvisor review said: "Can't praise the Beaumont enough. Rooms were great and decor carefully thought out. Food was excellent and several notches above many hotels charging a lot more. Staff were without exception helpful and friendly and made us feel we were genuinely welcome. Hotel itself is centrally located with the park right opposite."

Langley Castle Hotel, Hexham is considered a Tripadvisor bestseller. It's rated 4.5 from 1,757 reviews.

A reviewer praised the hotel for a "magnificent" stay.

"Our luxury room was in the castle with a very comfortable four-poster bed and antique furniture yet the bathroom was enormous with a double bath and wash basins plus large shower and even a sauna. The food and service was all first class. We even had a private guest tour of the castle," they said.

The County Hotel, Hexham is rated 4.5 stars from 518 reviews. 

A reviewer said: "We chose this hotel as a base for exploring part of Hadrian's Wall. 
We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived. The room was well-appointed and comfortable. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and the food was good and reasonably priced. The waiting staff were outstanding."

The Railway Hotel in Haydon Bridge also has a 4.5 star rating from 188 reviews, with guests praising "charming" bedrooms and "lovely" breakfast.

One review said: "Delightful hotel, very friendly and welcoming staff. Breakfast was great, cooked just right. Room a little on the small side but not a massive issue, we enjoyed our 3 night stay."

The Twice Brewed Inn, Bardon Mill is another popular tourist choice with 1,016 reviews bringing the rating to four stars.

"Such beautiful surroundings and close to Sycamore Gap, this hotel was excellent. The staff were all so lovely – very welcoming and extremely helpful. We had a couple of small issues that were soon ironed out in a professional quick manner," one happy customer said.

Slaley Hall Lodges Limited has 248 reviews for 4.5 stars.

Perched on the cusp of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, one customer said: "Comfortable, spacious, quality accommodation. The bedrooms are well furnished, beds are comfortable, the en-suite rooms have showers, towel rails and heated floors."

The Bowes Hotel in Bardon Mill has 122 reviews and a grand total of five stars.

"The room was lovely and clean, bed was very comfy. Food was amazing, evening meal excellent," a reviewer stated.
