An abandoned toilet block near to Front Street in Prudhoe has been placed on the market by Northumberland County Council.

The building, which measures approximately 8 metres by 6 metres, will be sold by an online auction on May 30 by Andrew Craig.

It has a guide price of £15,000.

According to the site, Northumberland County Council said: "The site is previously developed land within the town centre and primary shopping area of one of Northumberland's main towns.

"As a result, there is strong policy support for the principle of a change of use to retail or service. This is on provision that the requirements of Policy INF 2 regarding the loss of community facilities are satisfied."

County Cllr Gordon Stewart who represents Prudhoe South said: "Such premises have proved very popular when put on the market in many towns across the country, being repurposed for a range of opportunities."

He added: "Prudhoe has a range of much-loved small businesses and this is a great opportunity to help improve the town centre by bringing a new life to the building'

"I am working with several partner organisations and businesses in the town to encourage more people to shop locally and to visit Prudhoe for retail, leisure and commerce.

"Toilet facilities are available in the town centre at the Spetchells centre, Waterworld and many commercial premises have facilities for their customers."
