Haltwhistle news

THE lives of many Haltwhistle residents are now back to normal, after acting as hosts to groups from St Meen le Grand (Brittany) and Valentano (Lazio, Italy). It seems that the visitors were overwhelmed by the warmth of the welcome they received. The Italians had been led to believe that English people were cold – the people of Haltwhistle soon reversed that lie! Some visited our excellent swimming pool, Herdley Bank School, Bellister Castle where they had a hog roast – they were even entertained by Ian Brown!! All in all it seemed to be a lot of hard work, as well as a lot of fun. Well done to the organisers, and all involved!

Bardon Mill news

IT WAS not the best of days to hold the second annual Gladiators challenge, since the wind blew hard and the skies were threateningly grey. Unfortunately, last Sunday’s weather appeared to have kept many of you away, but those who did attend had a highly amusing afternoon watching the brave gladiator teams get progressively wetter and more tangled up as they completed the assigned tasks. Next year let’s hope for glorious weather and a crowded playing field.
