A VEHICLE fire brought traffic on the A68 to a standstill for more than two hours.
Police and the fire service responded to reports of a vehicle fire on the A68 at Rochester on Wednesday morning.
The fire was put out and nobody suffered serious injuries, but the road remained blocked in both directions while police cleared the road.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "At around 11.42am on Wednesday, police received a report of a vehicle fire on the A68 at Rochester.
"Police and the fire service attended the scene and the car fire was put out.
"Nobody was believed to have suffered any injuries.
"There was heavy traffic in the area and local diversions in place while the road was being cleared. The road fully reopened at 1.46pm"
