RESIDENTS of Horsley are being asked to sign a petition in protest of the closure of the village post office. Although Horsley has grown in recent years largely due to barn conversions and infill building, the village has had few additional essential services. Tynedale Council classifies the village as being unsustainable in this respect. It is many years since the village had a school, garage and shop. The loss of the post office would contribute further to rural deprivation. A special public meeting to discuss the closure will take place in the Crown and Anchor public house at 7pm on July 29.
