Taking action

MAY I add to the plethora of letters about the proposed post office closures?
Lots of areas likely to be affected are working hard to prepare cases to appeal against closure. In addition to these local efforts I would like to suggest a Tynedale wide effort.
Those of us in areas expected to be unaffected should support those at risk. We need to make a concerted effort to defeat this proposal.
The Government always says it will listen.
If every adult in Tynedale signed a petition asking that the closure programme be stopped and discussions started with a view to finding more acceptable ways of cutting the network’s losses, then surely the Government would have to listen and take some action.
The aim should be a 100 per cent support, but if we only achieved 95 per cent it would difficult to ignore. If a petition signed by a near 100 per cent of Northumbrians could be handed to local MPs it would be almost impossible to ignore. We can do it.
