I WRITE to correct a grave misunderstanding in your front page article which concerned the cost of burials at Allendale (Courant, July 11).
Allendale Churchyard, outside St Cuthbert’s Church, has been closed to burials for very many years now. Burials take place in Allendale Cemetery, which lies a half mile away; and as you correctly imply, the burial authority for this cemetery is the parish council.
