Marriage

David Crowe – Liesl Broekhuijsen

HISTORY repeated itself when David Crowe proposed to his girlfriend Liesl Broekhuijsen.
For he chose to pop the question while on a ferry in the middle of the North Sea – just like Liesl’s father when he asked her mother to marry him almost 30 years earlier.
Liesl and David tied the knot at St George’s Church, Mickley, in a ceremony conducted by the Rev. Bill Rigby.
A former pupil of Prudhoe Community High School, the bridegroom is the son of David Crowe, of Hillcrest Court, Prudhoe, and the late Sandra Crowe. He works as a heating engineer.
The daughter of Peter and Fiona Broekhuijsen of Biezenbleek, in the Netherlands, the bride studied at the University of Abertay in Dundee. She is a recruitment specialist.
Given away by her father she wore an ivory taffeta gown with diamante detail and a lace-up corset.
She wore her mother’s cathedral-length veil, which was held in place by a Swarovski hair piece, and she carried a hand-tied bouquet of white tulips, blue agapanthus and thistles.
Her two younger sisters, Catriona and Senga Broekhuijsen, were bridesmaids and they wore navy blue strapless maxi dresses with crystal detailing. They carried bouquets of white tulips and foliage.
Best man was the bridegroom’s friend, Andy Cottrell, who travelled from Australia to be part of the big day, while Tim Wing and Jan Foster, both good friends of the bridegroom, were ushers.
Hymns and music included Saint Saens Organ Symphony, Morning has broken, Love Divine and Lord of all hopefulness accompanied by organist John Roddam.
The church was decorated with tulips, roses and thistles by florist Jean Hepple. There were also arrangements of daffodils – the symbol of the Marie Curie Hospice – in memory of the bridegroom’s late mother.
The reception was held at Slaley Hall and the couple spent their honeymoon in New York.
