Marriage

Alan Turnbull – Victoria Mary Steele

MAFTEN Hall was the setting for the wedding of former Prudhoe Community High School pupils Victoria Mary Steele and Alan Turnbull.
The bridegroom is the son of Anne Porter, of Blackhall Mill, and Alan Turnbull, of Burnopfield, County Durham.
He attended Prudhoe Community High School before working as a carpenter in London.
The bride, who also attended Prudhoe Community High School, is the daughter of Angela and Alex Steele, of Hexham.
After studying nursing at Keele University, she now works as a staff nurse in the neonatal unit at Barnet General Hospital.
Travelling to Maften Hall in her father’s 1961 Mark II Jaguar, driven by Peter Marshall, the bride wore an oyster strapless vintage-style mermaid dress.
It featured a sweetheart neckline decorated in pearl and crystal beaded ivory lace, and she carried a hand-tied and pearl pinned bouquet of ivory roses, freesia and gypsophila.
Bridesmaids were the bride’s school friend, Anna Broadhurst, and cousins, Frances and Jenny Waitt.
They wore strapless full-length dresses and carried bouquets of dusky pink and ivory roses with purple tulips.
Flower girls, Laura and Hollie, wore ivory ballerina dresses and carried silk floral hearts.
The best men were the bridegroom’s school and work friends, Thomas Bland and James Robson.
Given away by her father, the bride entered to the Norah Jones song Come Away With Me.
The bridegroom’s sister Sarah Turnbull and the bride’s brother James Steele acted as witnesses to the ceremony in the Great Hall at Matfen Hall, which was decorated with ivory roses, spray chrysanthemum, purple tulips and alstroemeria.
A reception and disco for family and friends followed and the couple honeymooned in Dumfriesshire and North Yorkshire before returning to work in London.
