Marriage

MARK-NEWTON

FORMER Queen Elizabeth High School pupils Steven James Mark and Vikki Louise Newton have married at St John Lee Church in Acomb.
The bridegroom is the son of Tom Mark, of Thailand, and Gillian Mark, of Greenhaugh. Bar supervisor at The Phoenix in Hexham, he is a part-time youth worker.
The bride is the daughter of Judith Newton, of Acomb, and the late Ernie Newton.
After studying at QEHS she attended Sheffield Hallam University and is a learning support assistant at St Mary’s First School in Hexham.
Given away by her brother, Karl Newton, she wore an ivory lace and lace applique v-neck gown embellished with seed pearls and glass beads.
A diamante and pearl comb held her chapel-length veil in place and she carried a bouquet of hand-tied ivory roses.
Her sister, Stacey Newton, acted as chief bridesmaid, and she was also attended by her other sisters, Gemma Reay, Janine Newton and Jodi Armstrong, the bridegroom’s niece, Ellie Duncan, and the couple’s daughter, Ivy Mark.
They wore cobalt blue, chiffon pleated, knee-length dresses and wrist corsages of ivory roses, lisianthus and ivy.
Davey Glendinning, the bridegroom’s best friend, was best man and ushers were friends Jimmy Hogg, Jack McShane, Dan McNeillie and Kieran Henricks.
The bride’s nephews, Casey Reay and Arthur Armstrong, and the bridegroom’s nephew, Theo Mark were pageboys.
The service was conducted by the Rev. Jeremy Thompson and the church was decorated by Ann Wright of Gunnerton. Hymns included Give me joy in my heart and All things bright and beautiful.
For good luck the bride walked on a gold sovereign – the same one used by her mother and sisters at their weddings – and the couple also received a lucky horseshoe from their daughter.
The couple held their reception at Newbrough Town Hall and will be taking their honeymoon – a gift from guests – later in the year.
