Marriage

MOWATT- POWELL

HEXHAM Abbey was the setting for the wedding of Adam Mowatt and Rebecca Powell.
The couple wed in a service conducted by Canon Graham Usher with songs performed by the Abbey choir, conducted by Marcus Wibberley.
The bride is the daughter of Richard and Noreen Powell, of Hexham, and is a former pupil of Queen Elizabeth High School in the town.
The bridegroom is the son of Phil and Marianne Mowatt, of Widnes, in Cheshire.
The couple both attended the University of Sheffield and the bride now works as a doctor and the bridegroom as a dentist.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a satin ivory dress with flower detailed lace. She carried a hand-tied posy of ivory and pale pink rosebuds, sweetpeas, astrantia and ranunculus.
Bridesmaids were the bride’s sisters, Lucy and Naomi Powell, and the bridegroom’s sister, Hannah Mowatt. The bridesmaids wore full-length champagne satin dresses and carried bouquets of hand-tied posies to complement the bride’s.
The flowergirl was Daisy McClintock, the daughter of family friends, and she wore a champagne coloured dress with sequin detail.
Acting as best man was the couple’s friend, Philip Devendra. Ushers were the bridegroom’s friends Dan Jankun and Richard Horwitz, and the bride’s cousin, James Gosling.
Charpentier’s Te Deum was played as the bride entered the Abbey, which had been decorated in cream and pale pink roses, hydrangeas and gypsophila by Sheila Dance and the ladies of Hexham Abbey.
Hymns included I the Lord of Sky and Sea, Lord of all Hopefulness, and Love Divine All Loves Excelling, accompanied by Shaun Turnbull on the organ.
The choir sang For the Beauty of the Earth and The Lord Bless you and Keep You during the signing of the register, and Widor’s Toccata ended the service.
A reception followed at Dissington Hall and the couple honeymooned in Croatia.
