TYNEDALE Harriers Robert Carter and Bethany Gregory-Smith featured in a photo-finish – outside St Andrew’s Church in Corbridge.
For the couple were married after meeting during training sessions with the Harriers, where they both enjoy triathlon, as members of One Life Racing.
The bridegroom, the son of Derek and Elizabeth Carter, of Sidmouth, Devon, is an airline pilot with Ryanair.
The bride, the daughter of Stephen and Ann Gregory-Smith, of Matfen, is a former pupil of Ponteland High School and is a GP with the Wark and Humshaugh Medical Group.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an Augusta Jones ivory strapless dress, with a long veil secured by a Rosie Willett pearl and Swarovski crystal tiara.
She carried a hand-tied posy of ivory and pink flowers, including roses, lisianthus, veronica peonies and bouvardia.
The bridesmaid was the bride’s close friend Lindsay Heeley, who wore a long raspberry coloured dress.
The best man was the bridegroom’s brother-in-law, Phil Vincent, and the ushers were the bride’s brother Matthew Gregory-Smith, and the bridegroom’s friend Lawrence Brown.
The couple’s wedding rings were delivered by Fraser, the Harris hawk from Falconry Days at Simonburn, during the service, which was conducted by the Rev. David Hewlett.
Music for the service included Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, Widor’s Toccata and The Lord Bless You and Keep You, by Rutter.
The hymns were Tell Out My Soul and O Lord, All the World Belongs to You.
Following the reception at Dissington Hall, Ponteland, the couple left for their honeymoon in the Maldives.
