MARTIN WEBDALE - JILL RASTALL

THEIR wedding at St Helen’s Church, in Whitley Chapel, was the match of the day for PE teachers Jill Rastall and Martin Webdale.
The sporty couple, both of whom teach PE in Yorkshire, were married in a ceremony officiated by the Rev. Andrew Patterson on July 28.
The bride is a former pupil of Queen Elizabeth High School, in Hexham, and is the younger daughter of Alec and Marge Rastall, of Hexhamshire.
The bridegroom is the only son of Ian and Margaret Webdale, of Bicknacre, Essex, and studied at the University of Cardiff where he met his future wife.
The bride was given away by her father and wore a heart-shaped neckline gown with a beaded bodice falling into a full length train, which was decorated with crystals. She wore a pearl hair clasp to the side with a full length veil.
Chief bridesmaid was Emma Lissington, the bride’s sister, who had travelled from New Zealand, and the bride’s cousins Shona and Hayley Walker were bridesmaids.
They all wore cornflower blue dresses with cream sashes, and carried hand tied bouquets matching that of the bride’s.
The bride’s niece, Ellie Lissington, was flower girl and wore a cream dress with a matching cornflower blue sash. She carried a wand of flowers.
The best man was Gareth Bartlett, a university friend of the bridegroom who had travelled from Canada for the wedding.
The ushers were Brett Sweeney, of New Zealand, who had played professional rugby with the bridegroom in Ireland, and the bridegroom’s university friend Matthew Leek.
The bride entered the church to Wagner’s Processional Bridal March , while the hymns Jerusalem, Guide me, O Thou Great Redeemer and Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my Heart were sung throughout, accompanied by Shirley Nixon on the organ.
They left the church to The Recessional Wedding March by Mendelssohn.
Readings were given by Emma Webdale, the bridegroom’s sister, and Rachel Dart, a school friend of the bride.
The wedding cake was decorated with sugar crafted sweet peas made by family friend Margaret Ogle, while all the flower decorations and bouquets were designed by family friend Gwen Foster.
Friends and relatives from Canada, New Zealand, France, Ireland and across the UK joined the couple at a reception held in a marquee at Grouse House, the home of the bride’s parents.
The couple will honeymoon in the Maldives later this year.
