Marriage

Pawel Stocki - Christina Basford

THERE was an international flavour to the wedding of Bellingham bride Christina Basford and Pawel Stocki.
For the couple, who are both post doctoral research fellows at the University of Toronto in Canada, were married in the bridegroom’s native Poland.
The bride is the daughter of John and Ann Basford, of Redesmouth, and is doing her research in the physiology department.
The bridegroom is the son of Janusz and Lucyna Stocki, of Olsztyn, Poland, and works in the biochemistry department.
The ceremony took place at St Jakuba Cathedral in Olsztyn.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory silk organza gown and veil, with a pearl and crystal headdress. She also wore her late grandmother May Gledson’s pearl necklace.
Her bouquet comprised pink peonies.
The bridesmaids were friends of the bride Leah Lamb, Kathy Kirsopp-Reed and Claire Wright.
There were three best men – friends of the bridegroom Slawek Koltun and Wojciech Szymczyk, and the bride’s brother Steven Basford.
During the service, wedding singer Ewa sang Nella Fantasia, Panis Angellicus, Ave Maria and Caro Mio Ben.
Before leaving for the reception at Przystan on the shore of Lake Ukiel, the couple were presented with a lucky horseshoe by their son Piotr.
The couple intend to return to England in the New Year, when the bridegroom takes up a post at Cambridge University.
