Marriage

Peter Gavin Mankin – Selina Claire Cross

MUSIC performed by friends from Indonesia was played as bride Selina Claire Cross entered her wedding at St Cuthbert’s Church, Greenhead.
Setting the scene for her wedding to Peter Gavin Mankin was a special recording of Gabriel’s Oboe, arranged and performed by Liz and Rudi Alwi, who live in Jakarta.
The couple were married in a service led by the Rev. Neil Wilson.
The bride is the only daughter of Ian and Joan Cross, of Haltwhistle.
She attended Haydon Bridge High School, the University of Wolverhampton and Northumbria University.
She works as a partnership fund-raiser for Action for Children and is interested in running, skiing and singing.
The bridegroom is the son of the Rev. Kenneth and Mrs Dorothy Mankin, of Newton Hall, Durham. He is a former student of King Edward VI Grammar School at Louth in Lincolnshire and Cardiff University.
He now works as a clinical pharmacist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. In his spare time, the bridegroom is a Scout leader and enjoys cycling and canoeing.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore an ivory silk gown and a full-length veil with crystal bead detailing. She carried a bouquet of hand held mixed seasonal multi-coloured flowers.
Allison McPhearson, the bride’s best friend, was bridesmaid. She wore a full-length, deep red, chiffon 1950s-style dress, and carried a bouquet which matched the bride’s.
The best man was Andrew Mankin, the bridegroom’s younger brother. Friends of the couple, Michael Rowlson and Martin Young were ushers.
During the service, a special sermon and prayers were conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Mankin, father of the bridegroom.
Corinthians 13:4-13, and a passage from Jane Eyre, were read respectively by Bryan Johnson and Claire Rowlson, friends of the bride and bridegroom.
Flowers in the church were organised by the ladies of St. Cuthbert’s Church.
As the couple signed the register, specially composed music by Liz and Rudi Alwi was played, and the couple exited the church to the theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The bride and bridegroom were presented with a lucky horseshoe by Ella Nicholson.
A reception took place at Close House Hotel, followed by an evening party at no. 19 Close House, before a honeymoon touring New England.
