The Queen celebrated her birthday on Saturday June 12 and what better way to commemorate another year of HRH Queen Elizabeth II than looking back at her visits to Northumberland - along with local people who have been commended in her honours list over the years?
Though June 12 is the Queen’s official birthday, she was actually born on April 21. However, when a monarch’s birthday doesn’t fall within the summer months, a second is arranged to allow for good weather for the Trooping of the Colour Parade.
The occasion is marked publicly by gun salutes in central London at midday, a 41 gun salute in Hyde Park, a 21 gun salute in Windsor Great Park and a 62 gun salute at the Tower of London.
This year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list was announced on Friday June 11.
