I well remember Mr Peugniez, he joined the staff of QEGS shortly after I went there in 1958. As Mr Rhodes says, he was initially a shy young man; he bravely travelled on the bus back to his lodgings at Miss Carr’s house on the Allendale Road near my home in Southlands along with many of the children he had just been teaching!
He threw himself into school life at QEGS teaching maths and marking work in his beautiful, distinctive italic writing using a broad nibbed fountain pen. Unfortunately I was not his star pupil, maths to me was a complete mystery!
He was generous with his time out of school setting up a Photographic Society which I joined thereby creating a life-long interest in taking and editing photographs.
He could frequently be seen on the athletics field with a stop-watch and measuring tape; he gave freely of his time to encourage youngsters of all ages.
I also remember the huge Triumph 1800 Roadster he subsequently bought - it was as ostentatious as he was reserved!
I send my sincere condolences to Joan (whom I met once at their home in Hexham) I can completely empathise with her loss having lost my own husband at the end of December.

I knew Pat as a colleague and friend at QEGS from 1959-67 and my wife, Sheila, joins me in sending our sincere sympathy to Joan and all the family . We have very happy memories of Pat as a young, rather shy Maths teacher , who looked more sixth former than teacher. He was also a Housemaster with Michael Neale when QEGS had boarding houses. He plats a significant part in our memories of more than fifty years ago - when we were young.
