HENDERSON Vera (Allendale) Peacefully at home on July 12th 2020 aged 96 years. Vera, beloved wife of the late John (Jack) Henderson, loving mother to Janice, John and Isobel, much loved grandma and great-grandma. Graveside service to take place at Allendale Cemetery on Tuesday July 21st at 1.00pm. Family flowers only, thank you.

Pictures of a remarkable mother.
Born in Newcastle Eleanor Vera Marr. Left school at 14 and worked in Timpsons. Became a window dresser before joining the WRAF. She drove 3 ton lorries taking repair crews to downed aircraft. Married John Robinson Chapman having children Janice, Robin and Isobel. Moved to a small farm in the West Allen valley raising sheep, cattle, pigs and poultry. The farm is now Throstle Hole Priory (Buddhist). Divorced and became sub-postmistress at Catton. Here she married John (Jack) Henderson, a builder. After Jack's death she retired to Allendale.
