WORK to extend the platforms at Bardon Mill railway station resumed this weekend.
The work is part of the Great North Rail Project and will see the platforms lengthened, allowing newer, longer trains with more seats to call at the stations.
Bardon Mill is the third railway station in Northumberland to benefit from the investment, which is being carried out by Network Rail and Northern. Work to extend the platforms at Riding Mill station completed in February and similar work at Prudhoe station is under way.
Work began on the project earlier this year but after a pause, it resumed on Saturday, and is expected to be completed by Friday, May 3. Network Rail said the work would not impact on train services.
Rob McIntosh, route managing director for Network Rail, said: “We’d like to thank station users and residents for their patience whilst this key upgrade takes place. This work will enable us to continue to provide a railway which meets the needs of the communities and economies we serve.”
