Pupils from St Matthew’s Primary School in Prudhoe have been awarded a cash boost for their participation in the town’s 2019 Miners’ Race.
In a bid to keep youngsters fit and healthy, Prudhoe Town Council, event partner, offered a £100 incentive for the most entries into the race, per school, which was later matched by race sponsor, Essity.
The race, held on September 29, saw 23 per cent of St Matthew’s pupils enter the 1.5km event, for five to 10 year olds, out-performing other local schools.
The children were presented with a cheque on Friday, by Prudhoe town mayor, Coun. Tracy Gilmore, and representatives from race organisers Prudhoe Plodders, and Essity. The prize money will be used for gym equipment, in a bid to further support physical wellbeing. The 2020 race day has been confirmed as September 20.
