AS the nights get longer, colder and darker, many of us won’t want to stray too far from our homes for our fast food fix.
And luckily for residents, the Tyne Valley is home to a vast range of takeaways, restaurants and street vendors, meaning eating in has never been easier.
We asked readers of the Hexham Courant online to suggest their ‘ultimate’ Saturday night takeaway.
Here are their responses.
FIRE & DOUGH, HEXHAM
The wood-fired pizza experts, Fire & Dough, were put forward by Ross Mclean.
Best known for serving up their Neapolitan pizzas from their distinctive vans, the Tynedale-based chefs have recently launched a partnership with the popular Hadrian's Wall pub, Twice Brewed Inn, near Bardon Mill.
The business was launched by friends, Ross Keady and John Nicholson, of Hexham, in 2018 and has quickly gained a large following in rural communities.
SAATHI, Hexham
For John Rourke, Saathi's was "the BEST by a country mile!"
The glowing review comes just as owner Titu Ahad, who also operates the Indus Valley, in Hexham, and formerly Spice Valley, in Allendale, received approval to expand his business empire in the North Tyne.
The proposal for the new takeaway in Bellingham was years in the making and is very welcome news to residents and the popular restaurateur.
FIVE STAR TAKEAWAY, PRUDHOE
Often considered the 'best' takeaway in Prudhoe, Sandy Robson was full of praise for Five Star, describing the Chinese food as "amazing."
THE AMBER CHINESE TAKEAWAY, CORBRIDGE
And it would seem Chinese cuisine is popular right across the valley, with many complimenting Corbridge's offering.
Richard Wilson said: “The Amber Chinese, in Corbridge. Amazing food and good portion sizes.”
Alison Kendall agreed: “The Amber Chinese, Corbridge. Lovely and nice, friendly staff."
CORBRIDGE TANDOORI, CORBRIDGE
Not to be outdone, Corbridge Tandoori also came highly recommended by readers.
Richard Hart-Jackson said: “Corbridge Tandoori for me. Lovely food and such friendly service."
VERCELLI RESTAURANT, HEXHAM
Eleanor Donkin said: “Vercelli restaurant - had a takeaway Saturday night and it was amazing as always!!”
