THERE are few things better than tucking into a juicy steak with freshly cooked chips or fries.
Whether it’s an occasional treat, or you’re a committed carnivore, there are plenty of places in Tynedale to get a meaty mouthful.
So whatever way you like your steak, well-done medium-rare or even blue, here are some recommendations, in no particular order, of the best places.
The Rat Inn, Anick
A number of readers have raved about the steak and chips at the bar and restaurant near Hexham.
Pixie Jewels, Jen Thompson and Jenna Adamson all chose the Rat Inn as their local favourite for the meal.
And for Ali Milbum, the Rat at Anick was “without doubt” the best.
Cassia, Corbridge
The Corbridge restaurant has built up a reputation for its Italian dining, but its Sunday lunches and steak dinners have also proved popular.
Samantha Beaver said Cassia was the nicest steak she had ever had.
Carolin Armstrong agreed as she said: “Cassia in Corbridge, fresh, extremely well cooked steak,” she said.
Claire McDonald also voted for Cassia as the best throughout the district.
Charred Bar & Grill, Hexham
The restaurant, which specialises in steak and lobster, may have only opened within the past month. But the new eatery has quickly built up a strong reputation for fine food.
Sean Irvin praised the “amazing food and great attentive staff.”
Charred also received the vote of David Pickering, Peter Gash and Mark Benjamin.
Red Lion, Newbrough
Trish Law is a fan of the pub and said its steak “can’t be beaten”.
Greenhead Hotel, Greenhead
The pub has just completed a restoration and rebrand and Steven Heppell voted its steak offering as his favourite.
Beaumont Hotel, Hexham
The eatery on Beaumont Street got the thumbs-up from Craig M Fawcett.
King’s Head, Allendale
The pub reopened under new ownership in August and received the seal of approval from Lynne Kirsopp.
Matfen Hall, Matfen
The steak and chips at the popular Tynedale hotel and dining venue is a favourite of Sarah Sparke.
The Boatside Inn, Warden
For Christine Elliot the Boatside is her favourite Tynedale spot.
Riverdale, Bellingham
Samantha Robson recommended the hotel and restaurant.
