I enjoyed some inspiring presentations by young people from Hexham in last Saturday’s Hexham Debate, ‘Climate Crisis: Young Person’s perspective’ organised with Tynedale Transformed.
Great insights from the local to the global perspective with an audience of all ages and worth another watch.
I think we all wholeheartedly agree that local action is needed.
Long-established, local environmental group ‘Transition Tynedale’ was wrongly credited with organising the event, (Courant, January 28).
We do however form part of the solution and have been working on various local projects for the last ten years.
Current projects centre on increasing biodiversity on private and public land and reducing food miles.
These include Edible Hexham, Community Orchards, the Community Garden and Hexham Space for Nature.
No doubt readers will have seen these popping up in the area.
Past projects have focussed on energy use and production, and transport.
We are reinvigorating these and other areas.
We started 2021 with a talk by a local resident about his experience of getting a government Green Grant for an Air Source Heat Pump, a small step in raising local awareness.
We are always open to new ideas for projects and more people to work on current ones. Everything is run by volunteers.
Our next open meeting is on Thursday, February 18, details on the Transition Tynedale Facebook page and the website where you can also sign up to our newsletter.
Come along - we all need to work together and do our bit to reduce our local carbon footprint – whatever our age!
Thanks again to those young people for their inspiration.
