A TENNIS club which has been based in Hexham since 1888 has finally been named after its home town.
Hexham Tennis Club - previously known as Tynedale Tennis Club - has made the subtle change in a move described by chairman Vince Burini.
He said: “We have several sister tennis clubs in the district now and the name Tynedale Tennis Club was causing some confusion for new members and visitors. We of course welcome members from all across Tynedale to join our friendly club.”
Mr Burini thanked Hexham Town Council for its pledge of funding to support the rebranding.
Club member and local councillor Derek Kennedy said: “I proposed the change of name at the AGM of the club, as I felt it better represents that we are in Hexham. I was very sensitive to the history of the club and was delighted when a compromise was found.”
