An LGBT+ charity has announced a sponsor for its Pride festival this year.
Despite large-scale Pride events like Newcastle and Brighton being cancelled this year, Northumberland Pride is going ahead in Ashington People’s Park on Saturday, August 28. It will be a ticketed event for the first time in 2021.
In a welcome boost, Northumberland Pride has announced a new sponsor for the festival – Britishvolt, which will open its first full-scale Gigaplant in Northumberland to produce batteries for electric cars.
Darren Irvine-Duffy, Chair of Northumberland Pride, said: “Earlier this year we made a commitment to deliver a physical Pride and today I’m thrilled to announce this exciting new collaboration.
“Our recent research shows that LGBT+ people have suffered greatly as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, and it is essential to restore visibility and safe physical spaces for our communities.”
