A cycling roadshow which aims to get more people across the North East on their bikes this summer has been launched – and it's coming to Ponteland!
The Go Smarter, Go Active Roadshow will tour Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Durham across seven weeks to celebrate cycling throughout the summer holidays.
And from July 22 – 25, the Roadshow will stop off at Ponteland Leisure Centre – the second of nine stops the roadshow will be making.
There will be free cycle training for children and adults, as well as interactive workshops and demos to encourage a great use of active travel.
Cllr Marin Gannon, Chair of the North East Joint Transport Committee, said: “We saw in the first lockdown a huge increase of people walking and cycling which is why the Go Smarter, Go Active Roadshow couldn’t have come at a better time.
“The roadshow will help people of all ages across the North East pick up new cycle skills, whether that’s how to ride a bike, how to plan a journey or how to fix a puncture on the go. Most importantly, the roadshow events will give people the confidence they need to try cycling and see just how enjoyable it is – which is why I’m delighted to get behind it.”
Bookable roadshow events include adult refreshers courses, family fun cycles, ‘Learn to Ride’ sessions for children aged 5 and above. There will also be drop-in sessions which have no requirement to pre-book.
