A rowing team from a TYNEDALE town recently competed in a national competition and walked away with a number of promising results.
Members of QEHS Rowing headed to the National Junior Championships at Holme Pierrepont last weekend, with 30 rowers competing across 12 events.
The event, had been affected by the current Covid situation and saw a number of plans changed due to isolation's and imposed restrictions, while a number of top rowing clubs also decided to enter crews to make the competition even more fierce.
Each day's schedule was also modified to ensure a single year group's events were completed on the same day, but this didn't stop the club from having an experience building trip.
On the opening day, the Junior 15 quad scull of Halle Seymour, Annie Russell, Megan Elstob, Charlotte Goodson coxed by Ben Ryrie performed strongly in their C final, but had to settle for fourth after finishing just one second behind Hinksey Sculling School.
Another strong performance came from men’s doubles partners Lewis Davison and Lucas Grant as they ended their D Final in third behind Nottingham and Union RC and Abingdon RC.
Saturday's U16 action saw double scull Ben Ryrie and Ned Gibbard miss out on a top three result after being unable to match crews from George Herriot’s, Edinburgh and Sunderland.
Christian Ryan, Robbie Collen, Will Dyer and Ben Archer also fought closely with their rivals and ended up finishing third in the B final of their event.
Sunday saw the U18's in action, with the event seeing a number of Great Britain performance pathway competitors in action due to the changed event schedule following the coronaviurs pandemic.
GB trialist Dan Jones began his day by taking fifth in his time trial event, however would see himself up against four other national trialists in the semi-final including highly regarded Keyan O’Donnell.
He missed out on a A final spot and despite his best efforts, finished outside of the top three in the B final he later competed in.
Nicole Manning had to settle for third in her single scull F Final, while a heavily changed WJ18 quadruple scull side couldn't make it through to the later stages of their event.
