A PLANNING application was passed for development of nine houses in Allendale, between Dale Park and Lonkley Terrace.
The site, which will have two detached houses, four semi-detached houses and three bungalows met resistance from the Parish Council and local residents.
Speaking at the meeting, resident Terry Spark had concerns that the site didn't fit in to the Tynedale Local Area Plan.
He said: "Too much is being forced into the site and the layout of the scheme needs to be reconsidered to reduce the impact on privacy and reduce the density of the plans."
Fellow resident Paul Barber had concerns about flooding in the development, as did the parish council.
These objections were countered by the architect for the project, who said: "There have been extensive site excavations to check ground conditions and ground water levels."
A Planning Officer at the council said: "We feel that there are adequate distances between the properties concerned."
Historic Isaac's Well was also a topic of conversation, with assurances that no water would enter the well from the site.
Additionally, it was noted that if the development consisted of 10 houses rather than nine, the plans would've needed two affordable homes.
It was passed with no votes to the contrary.
