THERE is currently heavy traffic on the A69.
Drivers have been stuck in standstill traffic on the A69 westbound on the approach to the Bridge End roundabout.
The £30m upgrade scheme is nearing completion.
Highways England have announced the approaches to the roundabout and the bridge decks will be resurfaced overnight from Wednesday, August 18 to Saturday, August 21.
Then on Sunday, August 22, the temporary safety barrier on the westbound carriageway will be shortened.
During the work full east and westbound overnight closures will be in place between Acomb and Corbridge with diversions in place.
Highways England Project Manager Alek James said: “We are currently planning further overnight eastbound overnight closures between now and the end of September. These will be needed to install some more drainage and surface the road to the west of the junction and the eastbound slip road.
“We will also need overnight closures to surface the road at the eastern end of the work and remove the traffic management before fully opening the junction to traffic.”
