An art group is showcasing its members’ work at Riding Mill’s Parish Hall this weekend.

Riding Mill’s Art Club used time during lockdown to create artwork as a means of relaxation and will be show to residents in Riding Mill in the exhibition and some artwork can also be bought.

Janet Bennett, art club treasurer, said: “We’re really looking forward to showing people what we’ve been doing. After such a difficult 18 months, it’s lovely to have something cheerful to look forward.”

She added: There will be a wide range of original artwork on display, which we hope will appeal to most tastes and budgets, plus prints and art cards. You might even find an early Christmas present!”

The event will be held in Riding Mill Parish Hall on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm and is free to enter.

Art club secretary Hannah Thorpe added: “Our art club is a really friendly, informal one and our members have a wide range of interests, experience and we’re always open to new members."

The pandemic has seen many people turn to making and appreciating art as a means of relaxation, self expression and distraction during difficult times. Recognising the need to stay in touch and keep creative in lockdown, Riding Mill’s Art Club members were busy with monthly online challenges when they couldn’t meet in person.

Showcasing members’ work from the past three years on a variety of themes and in a multitude of media, the two-day exhibition promises to bring a little flair to Riding Mill this month.

Riding Mill Art Club meets on the first and third Wednesday of the month at Riding Mill’s Millenium Hall. For more details, please contact Janet Bennett (janetbennett2208@gmail.com) or Hannah Thorpe (hannahlthorpe@hotmail.co.uk).
