As the golf season wends its way towards a close it has been anything but weary for the ladies at Hexham Golf Club.
Jennifer Hermann celebrated her Captain’s Day with a keenly-fought competition.
This was followed by the first social event since lockdown – a prize-giving dinner which was much enjoyed by all.
Jan Rossiter was the winner in Division 1, Pat Borthwick in Division 2 and Diane Parfitt in Division 3. An inspirational performance was supplied by Margaret Montgomery who, at the age of 94, won the nine-hole competition.
The venue for the Captain’s Away Day was Wearside Golf Club, and was supported by a fine turnout of 48 ladies.
Championship Final’s Day was held on the July 25 with this year’s Champion, Susan He winning the title from June Lomax in a hard-fought match.
The Bronze Shield was won by Lynn Donaldson and the Carr Quaiche by Pam Pye, both winning on the 14th. Runners up were Gillian Arnott and Jill Waddington.
Team golf has continued throughout, with all Shield matches being completed by the end of August. The First Team succeeded for the fifth year in a row to retain the Division 1 title, a remarkable achievement.
The Second Team managed to hold their place in Division 3 and the Third Team finished fifth in Division 5 – a successful season.
The T R Percy Team were sadly defeated by Morpeth in their final which was held at Newiggin Golf Club.
The finals of knockout competitions have also been completed with Marie Brown winning the Calcutta Cup and Joan Swan and Anne Thompson being the victors in the Younger Trophy.
Amid all the competitive play, the Ladies also hosted their second Open of the season which was well supported by club players from all over the region; played in a friendly tri-match at Carlisle and hosted the NLVCGA match against Cumbria.
