BONFIRE Night is almost upon us, falling this Friday (November 5).

Also known as Guy Fawkes night, it commemorates the occasion when Fawkes was arrested whilst guarding explosives that had been placed underneath the House of Lords.

This year, Hexham’s annual bonfire and fireworks display has been cancelled, along with others in the district, over concerns for public safety.

However, other fireworks displays going ahead which you can attend include:

Kielder – Friday, November 5. Starts at 6pm, fireworks start at 7pm.

Humshaugh – Friday, November 5 at the Playing Field. Food will be served from 6pm and the fireworks start at 6.30pm.

Allendale – Friday, November 5 at Bridge End. Gates open 6pm, fire lit at 7pm.

Elsdon – Friday, November 5 at the village green. Starts at 6.30pm.

Whitfield - Friday, November 5. Bonfire and fireworks at 7pm.

Acomb – Saturday, November 6 at the Playing Field. Fire lit at 6.30pm, fireworks start at 7pm.

Prudhoe Town FC– Saturday, November 6 at Kimberley Park.

Whitley Chapel Young Farmers’ Bonfire - Sunday, November 7 at Whitley Chapel Sports Field. Fire lit at 6pm and fireworks display at 6.30pm.

Bellingham - Sunday, November 7 opposite the Riverdale Hall hotel. Fire lit at 6pm, fireworks to start shortly after.
