AN AWARD-WINNING hairdressers have opened their new salon after moving to a new location.
Saks Hexham was previously located on Priestpopple but has now moved up the road to 9 Cattle Market.
When the salon first announced they were moving, stylist Shannon Currah said: "We have been here at the salon for 20 years and it is just the right time for us to go for more of a boutique feel.
"Although the place is smaller it's got a bigger floor plan so we can fit more chairs in. We're going to have a beautiful new fit with all the Saks furniture and upgrade that way."
The family-run salon first opened in the town in 2002.
Andrea Currah, franchisee of Saks Hexham, said: "I will have been here 20 years in May next year.
"Shannon [Andrea's eldest daughter] has come onboard, and we thought if we're going to do this and do it properly, let's start afresh, and be more in the hub of the town."
She added: "Now it's not about me, it's about Shannon and the rest of the team. I've done my hairdressing career and I've seen the younger girls coming through. I want them to be in a nice environment and enjoy being at work."
They opened the doors to the new salon on Tuesday (December 7), and Shannon said the customers they have seen so far love the new space.
"I've had a lot of people wishing us luck, so that's been really nice," added Andrea. "We've got loads of support, a really good clientele."
The salon has won various awards over the years and in October, they scooped the award for the best hair salon in the 2021 England Business Awards for the Tyne & Wear region, which included Northumberland.
There are five stylists and two apprentices at Saks Hexham.
