A couple have published two books based on their charity walk in 2015.
70-year-old couple from Catton, Bob and Jos Mahon are celebrating publishing two books called ‘Barney’s Long Walk’ and 'Painting on the End to End Trail’.
Despite it being about the same journey, 'Barney's long walk uses Jos's diary recordings compared with 'Painting on the End to End' presents Jos's paintings she had done on the couples 1,400 mile charity walk which they completed in 2015.
The pair were 64 year old at the time walked with their dog Barney from Land's End to John o'Groats and had managed to raised £30,000 on their four month walk.
During lockdown and Covid, the Catton pair thought it was a good enough time to recall the walk and publish two books.
Jos said: "We never intended the recording and pictures to be put into books but they were just sitting there on the piano.
"Since the walk, we just haven't had the time to put it together, to make it easier for ourselves to read back about our journey.
"The diary entries are just about the day and where we had been but it does have a sad bit such as on the fourth day of the walk, was when we received the news that our two-year-old grandson, Archie, in Australia, was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive cancer had cancer.
"We were conflicted about what to do, whether to stop the walk and go out to see them or continue."
The pair were unsure about putting the photographs and diary in a book, but friends encouraged them to do it.
Jos said "We were encouraged by friends to put it all in a book and it seemed to be the right time as we couldn't do anything else.
"We had a lot of time to do it but that was good it is hard work putting a book together."
The books are available at Cogito Books in Hexham and online at the couples website at www.husdridingpress.co.uk and all profits made from the book about Barney’s Long Walk book are being donated to Guide Dogs.
