SOME of the district's most popular hotels have been named as the best for a 'grand staycation'.
Country Living has rounded up ten of the best luxury hotels in Northumberland - with six right on our door step.
Walwick Hall, Humshaugh, takes second place to the Cookie Jar, Alnwick.
The boutique, county house hotel, which has just ten rooms, has a spa, indoor pool, tennis court, fishing lake and gym.
The 18th century Grade II listed, stately home, set in 100 acres, opened in 2016 and has recently undergone renovation works.
Langley Castle, Langley, was also listed. Set in 10-acres of parkland, the main castle has nine rooms, some with an in-room sauna or spa bath, and there are a further 18 rooms in a converted coach house in the grounds.
Josephine's has two AA rosettes, while diners can also enjoy the Pavilion restaurant.
William de Percy Inn & Creperie, Otterburn, formerly The Percy Arms, was also chosen by the company as of the county's best as a French-inspired gastropub and boutique bed and breakfast.
Maften Hall, Matfen, which opened in 1999, took eighth spot.
Surrounded by 300 acres of parkland, the Gothic, stately home has been the ancestral home of the Blackett family.
In 2020, Matfen Hall, which has a spa, golf course and two AA rosette restaurant, was bought by the Walwick Estate Group for an undisclosed amount.
Award-winning Lord Crewe Arms, Blanchland, was not to be missed - the Grade II listed building has hospitality credentials stretching back more than 850 years.
