A NORTHUMBERLAND picnic site has been named one of the UK's best picnic spots.
Experts at holiday lettings company, holidaycottages.co.uk, have revealed six of the UK's top picnic spots.
Plankey Mill, near Hexham, was listed alongside Loch an Eilein in Cairngorms National Park, Brownsea Island in Dorset, and Box Hill in Surrey.
Plankey Mill was number two on the list behind Loch an Eilein.
Shannon Keary, Digital PR Manager at holidaycottages.co.uk said: "If you’re planning a day out where you can tuck into your perfectly prepped picnic, taking a break to bathe in the waters of River Allen, the Plankey Mill trail is a must."
"There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied, including some lovely trails through the wooded River Gorge to the old mill and campsite. Make sure to keep a family game of wildlife 'I spy' on the cards, with dipper, grey wagtail, otter, and heron among the native faunae."
Spring temperatures at Plankey Mill average at 9.5 degrees, reaching highs of 18.4 degrees.
"Away from the buzz of the city, you can experience some of the most breathtaking picnic backdrops Britain has to offer. Planning a countryside trail is the perfect family day out as the weather begins to heat up, and the spring wildlife blooms," Shannon added.
