A NEW project is now ready to match gardeners with idle gardens for food production.
The 'Grow Hexham' project will match uncultivated gardens with gardeners from the Town Council allotment waiting list, with food shared between the owner and the gardener with any surplus going to the Community Grocery.
It will also involve a repair and recycle scheme for tools, gardening skill shares, seed shares, and plant swaps.
The project received £5,728 from the North of Tyne Mayor’s office fund ‘Zero Carbon, Zero Poverty’.
Organisers secured the funding after they reached their target of receiving pledges of more than £8,600.
Newly-appointed co-ordinator Amy Hemmings said: "We are now ready to match gardeners with idle gardens or small plots of land.
"If you have a raised bed, or a garden that you can't manage, let us know, or if you would like to do the gardening."
If you are interested, contact Amy by emailing growhexham@hexhamtowncouncil.gov.uk or by calling 01434 609575.
Grow Hexham is a partnership project between Hexham Town Council, Hexham Community Partnership, Number 28 and The Community Grocery.
