WITH just over a month to go until the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Tynedale is gearing up to celebrate the unprecedented anniversary.

Her Majesty is celebrating 70 years on the throne this year following her accession in 1952 after the death of her father, King George VI.

She is the first British monarch to reach the milestone.

The actual date of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee was on February 6, but many of the main events are taking place this summer.

A special extended bank holiday weekend is taking place from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5, with national events including the first Trooping the Colour since the pandemic, a live concert at Buckingham Palace, and a Platinum Jubilee Pageant.

Villages and towns across the district are also planning street parties and other events to mark the occasion.

Events include the lighting of beacons and live ceilidh music at Hexham Market Place on Thursday, June 2, a picnic at Eastwoods Park in Prudhoe on Sunday, June 5, and many more.

Tynedale has always made a valuable contribution to past Jubilee celebrations, with memorable events in local towns and villages to mark the anniversaries in years gone by.

The Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 is well remembered, as are more recent events, such as the Diamond Jubilee of 2012.
