A COMMUNITY event will soon return to Whitfield.

Caroline Jordan and a committee of six others have took up the organising and running of the annual Whitfield Clay Shoot event.

The event is a fundraiser which will take place on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8.

It will be the first to take place for two years due to the Covid pandemic, and has previously fundraised for the Great North Air Ambulance Service, domestic abuse services, and The Country Food Trust, which turns high protein foods into frozen and chilled meals to help those experiencing food poverty.

Set on Whitfield Estate's extensive grounds, Caroline estimates up to 400 people could attend as both participants and spectators.

Along with trade stalls and a bar there will also be a pool shoot that children can try, shooting five or 10 clays into the air and competing for the best of five, with a monetary prize of £5. A shotgun licence is needed to take part.

People must bring their own shotguns and equipment to participate.

The event has been supported by several businesses, including Lloyd Land Rover Carlisle, Shaftoe Young Farmers which will be running the bar, and Hogs and Chicks Catering.
