A FORMER Hexham Forestry Commission worker has been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2022.
The Queen's Birthday Honours List, which has been published two weeks earlier than usual to mark Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, marks the incredible public service of individuals across the UK.
Simon Banks, who was a Forest Works Supervisor at Kielder Forest, retired in March.
He has been appointed as a Medallist of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) for his services to Forestry.
Mr Banks said: "I’m extremely proud to have served the Forestry Commission for 42 years as part of the team in Kielder Forest.

For services to Education and to Peatland Conservation, he has been appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “This historic Platinum Jubilee is not only a
celebration of the monarch but of the qualities she possesses. The honours she
confers this week reflect many of those qualities that have been invaluable from all different walks of life and to communities across the UK.
“I pay tribute to all of this year’s winners. Their stories of courage and compassion
are an inspiration to us all.”
