A businessman has been announced as a new sponsor for a community cricket club, to which club believes could help save the club for future generations.
Andrew Lapping, 51, of Cumbria, who owns Hindley Circuits in Darlington, has recently agreed to sponsor Stocksfield Cricket Club.
Not only is Andrew sponsoring the club, and the facilities, but all teams including kids teams - making sure all of the club will be looked after during his sponsorship.
The club on the A695 road in Stocksfield has been open since 1920 and runs seven senior teams, five mens and two womens, and caters for all levels of ability.
The club also coaches and runs six junior teams ranging from U18 to U11, including an U14 girls team.
Being a local member of the community, Andrew wanted to do something to help.
Luckily, he was in a good financial place to help the community sport hub.
“I sold my other business last year and want to put something back into the area,” Andrew said,
“At that time, the cricket club needed a sponsor, so I said yes.”
By being a sponsor, Andrew is looking forward to the future of the club and has hinted at upcoming changes of the community hub.
He said : “They have great plans for a new pavilion and have a lot of kids teams so they need new kits.
“It will also help promote my business as it will have my businesses on it.”
Reflecting on his generosity, Andrew also thinks how his involvement will help the cricket club.
“I am honestly so delighted to sponsor Stocksfield cricket club this season and the new kit looks fantastic.
“The Club is a key pillar in the local community so it’s a great honour to contribute something.
“With a bit of luck, we may also discover the next Ben Stokes in our village!
“From what I’ve seen, there’s no shortage of enthusiasm and commitment from the coaches, support staff and of course the many children who represent our community.”
Chris Catnach, Club chairman said: “ The club relies on support from the local community.
“We are excited to build a relationship with Andrew and appreciate his acknowledgement of and generosity towards the club."
