A RECITAL will take place at Humshaugh Village Hall on Saturday, July 9.

Local cellist Miriam Nohl and Chamber Ensemble, Noxwode Baroque, are due to give an evening recital at 7.30pm.

The group formed while its core members were studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and this concert is part of a small tour they are doing in advance of attending Davos International Festival in August.

A special point of interest for the group is performing Baroque music from the year 1600 until 1750, on instruments from the time.

Where not many certain types of instruments from the time survive, members of the group perform on replicas, such as Jonatan Bougt and his theorbo.

The theorbo is a very long-necked lute, which is particularly useful for low-pitched, plucked bass notes.

The programme will include an introduction to all of the group's equipment.

The band promises it to be an entertaining evening, helped along by complimentary drinks and snacks included with tickets, provided by Humshaugh Arts Programme.

As well as their event in Humshaugh, they will be playing in the hometowns of other group members including spending a weekend in Shropshire, all supported by a grant from the Continuo Foundation.
