AN MP is 'delighted' the Government will support households through the cost-of-living crisis.

Guy Opperman MP is pleased the Government will support vulnerable homes through winter, with a rebate on energy bills, a Cost-of-Living payment, and pensioner support.

Partially funded by a temporary tax on profits from North Sea oil and gas production, companies operating in the North Sea pay the other profit-related taxes of ring fence corporation tax, supplementary charge, and petroleum revenue tax (PRT).

"The Government have imposed an Energy Profits Levy, a new 25 per cent surcharge on the extra profits the oil and gas sector is making, including BP."

"The Levy is helping to fund the package of measures to support local people through the upcoming winter including: the £400 rebate on energy bills, the £650 Cost of Living payment to vulnerable households and the additional £300 to help pensioners with their Winter Fuel Payment," Mr Opperman said.

"I continue to meet with government ministers on behalf of local people raising the cost-of-living. I was delighted the Government recently listened to us and will now be providing support to households off the electricity grid and to park homes, who were previously ineligible for the £400 Energy Bills Discount."
