A QUEEN Elizabeth High School pupil celebrated victory in the English Girls' Open Championship recently.
Charlotte Naughton took home the prize in the under 14 section.
She completed the 54-hole championship, played off at Formby Ladies Golf Club last month, with a final round of 73 and posting a winning total of 219 (+6).
Annabel Peaford was the overnight leader, but soon found her lead evaporated by playing partner Naughton.
Three birdies for 14-year-old Naughton helped close the gap and a par on 18 was all she needed to claim the title by a two-shot margin from Hill Valley’s Lauren Crump.
After the win, Charlotte said: “I feel very proud to stand here. It means a lot because I’ve worked really hard for this and it’s all paid off.
“A birdie on the second hole really got my final round started. I just missed out on a birdie on the 17th which has been playing hard all week so a par was a positive score.”
“I played really well. It’s a hard course and now I just need to keep grafting away and get better and better.”
Earlier this year, Charlotte, a member of Ponteland Golf Club, became a record breaker by becoming the youngest winner of the Northumberland Ladies Championship.
