A CHEQUE for £2,000 has been presented to a youth organisation for their Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme.
The Rotary Club of Hexham hosted a charity concert at Hexham Abbey in May to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Funds raised were split evently between the British Red Cross and Hexham Youth Initiative's Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Rotarian Sandy Rutherford, who was on the organising committee, has presented Jamie Yeowart, the DofE expedition supervisor at Hexham Youth Initiative, with a cheque for £2,000.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is one of the country’s best-known youth self-improvement schemes for 14 to 24-year-olds.
Event organiser Brian Massey said: From the start we were keen that this special event should have some tangible benefit to the town and we are grateful to all the performers and narrators who gave of their time and expertise to stage a wonderful evening, and of course, not forgetting our sponsors and the audience”.
