A POP-UP brunch fundraiser event will be held this weekend in remembrance of a young woman who took her own life.
Jodi Walsham, from Humshaugh, died in January last year, aged 23.
Jodi's mum Jayne has organised the brunch event, which will take place at Humshaugh Village Hall from 10am on Sunday (September 4), to raise money for 'Jodi's Sunflower Fund', which will support suicide prevention and mental health initiatives.
They are supporting the 'Baton of Hope' initiative, which is designed to be the biggest suicide awareness and prevention initiative the UK has ever seen.
Their specially designed baton will tour UK towns and cities for two weeks next summer.
The brunch options at the event include a home-cooked Full English, bagels, and pancakes.
"I've got lots of people who are helping me," said Jayne. "I'm hopeful that we'll get quite a lot of people coming out.
"People can get a breakfast, and we raise money as well."
Last year, Jodi's parents released a song which Jodi produced and sang on, ‘Love and Scars’, to raise awareness on mental health and raise funds for charities in her memory.
Jayne has recently contributed towards the Yorkshire Speak Their Name Suicide Memorial Quilt Project.
The quilt will be made up of individual squares designed by those who have been bereaved by suicide, and Jayne will be going to Leeds for its launch next weekend.
A show in Jodi's memory at the Queen's Hall to further raise awareness of mental health and suicide prevention is also being planned for February next year.
Jodi, who went to Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham, graduated from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) in 2018, where she studied community drama and applied theatre.
She was a member of Humshaugh Youth Theatre from 2005 to 2011.
Everybody involved in the show is connected to Jodi in some way, Jayne said.
