A POSTBOX topper was created for the village of Alston by a craft group in Wales.
In July, after seeing Facebook photos of various knitted and crocheted postbox toppers around the UK, local resident of Alston, Jane Wilmott, asked on Facebook if anyone would make one for Alston Post Office if she paid for it.
Janet Fowler, founder of a craft group called Crafty Together based in a small Welsh village, contacted Jane, offering to make one and send it to Alston as a gift.
Various members of the craft group got involved to help, and within a few weeks the postbox hat was ready to send to Jane.
Deciding on a theme for the hat was easy, as Jane had explained what the area around Alston was like.
A knitted tractor with trailer was followed by some crocheted sheep, a knitted rooster and hen, a knitted farmer, along with some knitted bales of hay.
The base was crocheted with various green yarns resembling grass.
