A HEXHAM woman was arrested twice this week for her part in protest action.

Mother of two Kate Bramfitt also spent time in prison last month for blocking Kingsbury oil terminal, near Tamworth, Staffordshire.

It comes after Just Stop Oil activists blocked roads in London's Knightsbridge and Southwark. They sat in the road with banners - many gluing themselves to the tarmac.

A total of eight arrests of people from the North-East were made in the capital, following four last week.

Kate said: “I’m here on the streets taking part in civil disobedience because in the 18 years since my daughter was born, nothing has changed.

"I’m just in despair at what our government is doing, licensing more oil and gas drilling at hundreds of sites in the North Sea, forcing fracking on communities that don’t want
it and all this when scientists like Sir David King are saying that we can’t take more coal, gas and oil out of the ground.

"The decisions the Government is taking will affect us all for generations to come, we
can’t let them get away with this.

"I want to be able to look my daughter in the eye in years to come and say ‘I did absolutely everything I could’”.

A spokesperson from the campaign added: “We will be returning day after day, until our demand is met – no new oil and gas in the UK.

"We are not prepared to just watch while they destroy everything that we love. We’re
done with begging. Voting changes nothing.

"Ordinary people are stepping into Civil Resistance because it is our only chance at preventing the biggest crisis humanity has ever faced. Fossil fuels are pushing British
families into poverty and causing famines around the world today. 33 million have been displaced due to the floods in Pakistan — this is just the start of it. New oil and gas is an act of genocide.

"We stand to lose everything we’ve got, so we’ve got to give it everything we’ve got. It’s going to take all of us, people like you, your friends, colleagues and neighbours to stop this madness. Step up and take action."

Just Stop Oil is demanding that the UK government stops all new oil and gas projects.
