A village pub's event fundraises over £500 which is to be split between two charities that often help the community.

On October 28, a quiz held at The Crown Inn in Hamshuagh, has managed to raise £548.17, which will be split between Tynedale Hospice at Home and The Great North Air Ambulance.

18 teams participated in the first-ever quiz held by the pub, which stunned the landlord David Harding that it was a very much welcomed event.

Hexham Courant:

David Harding said: "I’m absolutely delighted with the support we were shown, it’s the first time we as The Crown have run our own quiz.

"All the other previous quizzes have been run by people in the community and on behalf of various village causes.

"Our was very much the brainchild of Anna Hutch and to raise so much money during such difficult times is an absolute credit to the efforts she put in.

Hexham Courant:

"It was not all serious, as we decided to do the 'After Eight challenge' - which was a great icebreaker for everyone at half-time.

"One person from each team was nominated to come up to the bar. We didn’t tell them what they were doing until they got to the bar.

"The challenge was great fun and the best thing for me was seeing all ages mixing together and getting involved. It’s not always easy to do something that appeals to all age groups.

"We chose the two charities, Tynedale Hospice and GNAA for the money raised as personally Tynedale Hospice will always hold a huge place in my heart after the way they looked after my Mum.

Hexham Courant:

"I’m lucky to have never needed the Air Ambulance but to know that it’s available should that day ever come is worth every penny we can give them in my eyes."

Hexham Courant:

After the success of the night, David believes the event is something that he intends to continue.

Hexham Courant: "While we don’t currently have any dates set we will certainly be organising more, so keep an eye out."
