THE inaugural Northern Film Prize, launched by bestselling author LJ Ross, is now open for entries for short films that represent the spirit and heart of the North East.

The prize, run in association with Alnwick Story Fest and sponsored by Dark Skies Publishing, is free to enter and consists of two categories – one for amateur filmmakers and one for professional filmmakers.

It is open to all filmmakers from the UK whose work best captures the theme of the prize. This year’s theme is ‘transformation’.

The winning films will each earn a £1,000 cash prize and will be screened at an event hosted by Alnwick Castle as part of Alnwick Story Fest, which is taking place from February 24-26.

Hexham Courant:

LJ Ross, the author of the DCI Ryan novels and who grew up near Ponteland, said: "I’m passionate about the region where I was born, which has provided me with endless inspiration for my novels.

"I love its people, its landscapes and history, and I’m proud to support any artistic endeavour that hopes to capture the spirit and heart of this very special corner of the world.

"I’m excited to see how new, emerging and established filmmakers will interpret this year’s theme of transformation!"
